Is this really it?

In the final chapter i was not too happy with how Fitzgerald decided to tie up loose ends. This chapter seemed to Jump around and throw new ideas around and was not completely coherent to me. The question that came to mind after the ending was is this it? The ending of the book did not really give me closure with the book. Instead of one big ending it gave little life lessons to close up paths in the plot. The ending quote was this "So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past." and in this quote i found that this whole book relates to this one sentence right here. It describes Gatsby perfectly. Gatsby continued at trying to get Daisy to return to how she was five years ago to no avail. he was like a boat paddling at the current the whole time appears to be approaching it's destination but really is in the same spot it has been. Gatsby shielded out everything around him though he did not really want to know that he was not making progress and possibly was just pushing Daisy away with his demands  He wanted to live in his little world oblivious to what was around him until finally his world and the real world caught up and he was left dead.
The book itself was a great book possibly one of the best for school i have ever read. However, the ending was not my favorite part at all. But aside  from the ending the whole book was kind of like this mysterious man that came out of nowhere and we do not know what he wants. every chapter revealing more and more. I liked this style of moving through the plot with all the suspense it made the book more enjoyable. Also, the discussions made understanding the difficult ideas and language of the time. I personally found the discussions to make the book more enjoyable. With testing on reading i find reading to be a chore from reading for specific details not enjoying the book and understanding what the author wanted to get across. The blog project made expressing how we feel about the book and understanding ideas and themes to just click as i wrote. The blog project and discussions helped a lot more then tests ever would.

Too late to apologize

Nick tries to help Gatsby out by telling him to leave town for a few weeks. Gatsby does not want to however. He wants to be with Daisy. Gatsby often times through out the book wants things when it is too late. In this chapter we see it in the scene with the pool when the keeper of it wants to drain it. “Don’t do it to-day,” Gatsby answered. He turned to me apologetically. “You know, old sport, I’ve never used that pool all summer?” Gatsby wants to use his pool now when its too cold to use it anyway. This is just like his desire for daisy. What he wants out of her is in the past and it's too late to obtain it. He waited to long to get this daisy that he wants, which is the daisy from 5 years ago. Going back to what i began with, Nick warns Gatsby too get out of town this foreshadowed to me something bad was going to happen to him. In Gatsby's eyes he was not too worried because he was thinking about daisy not himself. In Nick's eyes Gatsby was in big trouble and he could not help him. A major idea i pulled out of this chapter and is an ongoing theme in this book is often times we want things after it's too late. Gatsby wants the Daisy from five years ago not the Daisy he has now.

Getting into the big event at the end of the chapter the question pops up did Gatsby deserve what he got? Did he deserve to die? I think that there really was no other choice for the ending of this book. He had to die there was no other ending that i could think of. However, i figured it would be Tom not Wilson. so in this chapter we figure out Tom did indeed despise Gatsby and did a lot to ruin him but killing him was not one, thus making my prediction not entirely true. Wilson deserved to be told who really was his wife's cheater and he never got it so in turn he went after Mr. Gatsby.

Plot Twist

Wow! just when i did not think that the plot could twist any more. All i can say is just wow! There is so much to be said about chapter 7 but ill start with the ending. Who saw that coming? i know i did not. The ending leaves me with so many questions.  Will Tom find out it was daisy that killed Myrtle? How will this effect Tom's relationship with Daisy? Will he find a new mistress? There are so many more but for the lack of space and time i will cut it off there. Both Tom and Daisy are both so lost at this moment Daisy upset from the events that played out that afternoon and now she killed someone, and Tom his "love" just died. But i want to get into Gatsby a little bit. Gatsby seems unaffected by the fact that he just witnessed a murder. Its almost as if he had gone through this before which raises the question are the rumors true? Did he really kill a man? He even says he will take the blame for it if he has to. This all happened so fast! This does go along with our theme on time though. However, this time the theme about time is relative to any thing can happen at anytime. Mr. Gatsby stated "It all happened in a minute," this shows us that anything can happen in the blink of an eye and i think that's what Fitzgerald is trying to get across in this little scuff.

There are just so many lose ends that i hope will be answered the the final two chapters. I wonder how this will effect my prediction  Will it drive Tom into an endless rage finding out that Gatsby was involved in this murder? I think Tom will seek vengeance  because he already is not fond of Gatsby. He just found out earlier that he and Daisy are in love. Which raises another point why is it k for Tom to cheat on his wife yet when he finds out Daisy is starting to he believes its completely wrong and goes into a rage. Tom in my opinion is a big bully and needed to be knocked down off his pedestal and this was just how it should be done. I am also curious as to why Nick did not want to go in with Jordan. I thought he was falling for her and he turns her away. I want to know what Gatsby really plans on doing during the night or if he was telling the truth. I am finding it increasingly hard to believe the things Gatsby tells Nick. Well that's all for now can not wait to try and find the answers to m questions. What a plot twist.
