Wow! just when i did not think that the plot could twist any more. All i can say is just wow! There is so much to be said about chapter 7 but ill start with the ending. Who saw that coming? i know i did not. The ending leaves me with so many questions. Will Tom find out it was daisy that killed Myrtle? How will this effect Tom's relationship with Daisy? Will he find a new mistress? There are so many more but for the lack of space and time i will cut it off there. Both Tom and Daisy are both so lost at this moment Daisy upset from the events that played out that afternoon and now she killed someone, and Tom his "love" just died. But i want to get into Gatsby a little bit. Gatsby seems unaffected by the fact that he just witnessed a murder. Its almost as if he had gone through this before which raises the question are the rumors true? Did he really kill a man? He even says he will take the blame for it if he has to. This all happened so fast! This does go along with our theme on time though. However, this time the theme about time is relative to any thing can happen at anytime. Mr. Gatsby stated "It all happened in a minute," this shows us that anything can happen in the blink of an eye and i think that's what Fitzgerald is trying to get across in this little scuff.
There are just so many lose ends that i hope will be answered the the final two chapters. I wonder how this will effect my prediction Will it drive Tom into an endless rage finding out that Gatsby was involved in this murder? I think Tom will seek vengeance because he already is not fond of Gatsby. He just found out earlier that he and Daisy are in love. Which raises another point why is it k for Tom to cheat on his wife yet when he finds out Daisy is starting to he believes its completely wrong and goes into a rage. Tom in my opinion is a big bully and needed to be knocked down off his pedestal and this was just how it should be done. I am also curious as to why Nick did not want to go in with Jordan. I thought he was falling for her and he turns her away. I want to know what Gatsby really plans on doing during the night or if he was telling the truth. I am finding it increasingly hard to believe the things Gatsby tells Nick. Well that's all for now can not wait to try and find the answers to m questions. What a plot twist.
I completely agree with your idea that Tom has to be knocked down. He is really a bad guy. He was so angry when he heard that Gatsby and Daisy was in love, even he is cheating on Daisy. I couldn't understand why he wants to win the argument with Gatsby. Couldn't he divorce and marry Myrtle? I think Daisy was only a security to him. So he can still be with some women. I also surprised that Gatsby said that he will take blame for it. I think he knew that he will lose Daisy and that was last thing he could do for her.
ReplyDeleteI liked your blog posting.
I also agree with you about Tom. He's maintained this hypocritical nature throughout the ladder end of the book and has no right to the state of dominion he has placed himself over everyone else.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I never really liked Jordan and agree with Nick's decision not to pursue her.
Good post, brohan.
I saw that coming. Completely and utterly, It's almost like a given rule that someone has to die in a drama book but still. It's quite funny how myrtle has to be the one who had to die. It's like a pattern though. At first Tom Is having an affair with myrtle. Than they are both are having an affair with different people and then myrtle is killed by none other then his wife, and now Daisy is the only one having an affair between the two of them. It's like the ultimate hand off of sin. Cheating and Murder.
